JUN VELASCO

A self-taught Baguio born artist whose career in arts stemmed from his passion for painting since childhood Jun’s paintings are sought after and are hanged in homes and establishments locally and internationally. While studying civil engineering in Saint Louis University, he worked at the same time as resident artist for Pines Hotel Baguio until his graduation. After graduation, he served as a faculty member for SLUEngineering and Architecture department before migrating to Australia in 1989. Prior to his departure to Australia, he was commissioned by the Philippines Military Academy (PMA) to paint the portrait of the late President Ferdinand Marcos. This portrait now hangs in PMA museum alongside all the ex-presidents of the Philippines.

Upon his arrival in Sydney, he worked with a steel fabrication and construction company for many years until he decided to start his own steel detailing company which he is still doing currently. His style of painting is a product of his exploration of most types of mediums which includes oils, acrylics, watercolour and large format pen and ink on canvas using acrylic instead of ink. In Sydney, he constantly joins group exhibitions / competitions where he garnered awards. His paintings are now being collected internationally. His had exhibited with The Manor House and the Forest Lodge in Camp John Hay Baguio 2 years ago. He is also represented Artasia Gallery located at SM Megamall, Mandaluyong , and The ATTIC gallery in Las Pinas.

He is an active member of Philippine art group such as Art Philippines, Let’s Paint, Introducing Filipino Artists, Let’s Paint Figures, IWS Philippines, World Watercolor Group, Australian Studio Painters, Philippines Guild of Watercolorist, Filipino Artists Exchange, Watercolour Confluence, Watercolor Plus, Freedom Art Society, World Contemporary Artists, Painting the Best, GP Figure Artists, Watercolor Art Neighbor, Pinoy World Class Artists, Australian Professional Artists Network, Watercolour Community, Watercolor Café, World Landscape Artists Net, and Castle Hill Art Society, He is one of the representatives of the IWS Philippines for the 2ndTirana International Watercolor Biennale 2017 in Albania on March 12-17 2017 and IWS Indonesia 2ndExhibition .

His latest exhibits are with ART ELEMENTS SM Global city - May to June 2017 in Taguig and one man show in Man Man Show in Manor House, Camp John Hay, Baguio city from June to end of Sept 2017. His most current achievement is to be chosen as The Ambassador for Culture and Arts in the field of Fine Arts by PLAZA FILIPINO and NARRA in NSW Australia. Most of his latest paintings are now available in limited edition prints on canvas that can be viewed in his facebook page.
